The system isn't smart enough to know the difference between "an" as a real preposition in German and "an" as an abbreviation for "altnordisch". It just sees the word "an", and it looks in the German dictionary for a match. It's not perfect, but the translations are just there as a convenience for users who might not know German.
Fixing that would require that the entry be marked up into semantic fields such as "definition", etc. That would be nice to have, but it's not something which can be readily added to the current system.
