Wait-- do you know for a fact that the OED staff was searching the text in 2004?

For one thing, it would be gratifying to know that this was the case.

It's also an interesting footnote. Between 2001-2005, I submitted around a half dozen major grant proposals related to the project; I would have been able to work on it full-time and hire some student assistants. The grant proposal reviews were always positive, but I never quite made the final cut. I don't imagine that the outcome would have been different if I had mentioned that the OED staff was using the resources, but that kind of window dressing never hurts. Without funding to pursue the project further, I left academia in 2006 and went to industry.
